Kuya Reunion 2008 Saint Louis
Kuyas, we are happy to announce the next Kuya Reunion is scheduled for Saint Louis, Missouri between
25 - 28 September 2008.
The reunion will be held at the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel. The venue and conference facilities will be somewhat different from Kuya Reunion 2003 but dinners and bar running will remain within the complex. This will be familiar to those who were able to attend in 2003. Don Orbin is heading up the effort with assistance from Joe "Cy" Cybulski working the restaurant end. Don and Cy did a fantastic job at the last Kuya Reunion Saint Lulu. Random Randy Roberts is the garbage man working all kinds of stuff. Mike "Lulu" Gilson is the money man. And, Bruce "Zoot" Suits is official scribe. The Animal House web site will be updated to reflect all new information. We are hoping to have the biggest reunion crowd ever so please let everyone know and encourage their attendance.

The room rate is $89/night with no extra charge for up to 4 people (That means as many as 4 people to a room if anyone would like to share a room with other Kuyas - that's only $22.50/person per night for 4 - quite a bargain)

The hotel provides a complimentary hospitality suite and space for meetings and/or memorial services.

The Sheraton Chalet offers us the banquet facility for a 2 entree buffet dinner for $25/person for our formal dinner on 28 September.

The Sheraton Chalet has an indoor pool, whirlpool, and sauna (sweat the alcohol out of the pores and go for more gusto!)

There is a free shuttle bus service from/to Lambert International Airport.

There is a casino shuttle service from the hotel to Harrah's Casino so you can help out the local economy.

There is free parking at and around the hotel/conference complex.

There are numerous restaurants, bistros, bars, a comedy club and specialty shops all within walking distance of the hotel.
The Sheraton Lakeside Chalet has been good enough to create a personal web site for us to browse the hotel facilities
and update information for us. Here's the excerpt from the email sent to us by the hotel coordinator,
Ms. Ayade King.

ATTENTION: ((Updated Information as of July 30th, 2008))

We are requesting a $100 EXPENSE DEPOSIT per Kuya (not spouse) for the September 24-28, 2008 6922nd SW Kuyas Reunion in St. Louis.  Please send a check or money order to Lulu (address below) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! The purpose of the deposit is to "prime" the reunion account for up-front expenses (magoos, soft drinks, munchies, deposits on entertainment, hospitality suite, picnic, transports, etc.) as well as a kick start for group meals etc.  Also, it avoids our host (Don Orbin) from digging into his own pocket for deposits, and helps us all get real about deciding to attend this wonderful reunion with our brothers.  Please send your deposit today!

***Your check or money order for $100 should be made out to:

     6922nd Reunion Fund

Mail to (Lulu):

     Mike Gilson
     1200 Woodborough Rd
     Lafayette, California 94549

Final amounts due/refunded/kuya fund contributions will be accounted at the reunion.  Just a reminder, this deposit is NOT connected with your hotel room reservations.  If you haven't made your reservations yet, please do that today too!

Expenses break out:

  a.  Hospitality - No additional charge for wife, spouse, significant other, etc.
  b.  Transportation (if any) - Per person basis
  c.  Meals (e.g., BBQ, Banquet) - Per person basis

BONUS:
2008 Reunion Tshirts will be available for purchase at the reunion @  $7.50 (cost)
But, if you send your $100 deposit to Lulu by August 15, 2008 your shirt will only be $5!  After the Aug 15 cutoff, price goes to $7.50.

Please let us know if you have any questions!  And we sure hope to see all your smiling faces at the Kuyas Reunion 2008 in St. Louis!  By the way, in case of cancellation, expense deposits will be fully refunded up until 30 days prior to the reunion event.

Other INFO:

2008 Reunion host, Don Orbin, reports that as of Monday morning, July 28, 2008,  there are 29 rooms booked for 50 people.

AGENDA:

Wednesday = Early arrivals (dinner on your own)
Thursday = Evening meal @ Pujols 5 (formerly Patrick's where we had the Saturday festivities in 2003) CASH bar.
Friday = BBQ at local park
Saturday = Evening Banquet in hotel

Newt is checking on St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at the (Friday?) tickets

Random Randy Roberts did a little 202'ing and found a nearby golf course for anyone who might want to play on their own. It's called Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Club and it's in Creve Coeur Park, about 3 mi west of the hotel. In fact, it may have been the course the goffers played in St Lulu-1. Anyway, Randy didn't even need or bother to negotiate green fees; they're already reasonable - Seniors (55+) play 18 for $29 (incl cart); tee time before noon M-F (regular rate $46.50). If we know of some guys who want to play we can get a tee time set up a couple of weeks before. Randy said he was thinking Fri 9/26 to be the golf day (also Sat if they want to but the fees are higher) as they could get the golf in plenty early enough to get back for the BBQ and/or the Cards' baseball game. He said he had not yet heard anything else back from Newt but he thinks if folks want to go they'd better get started on getting tickets. If the Cards are still in the pennant hunt, tickets could be scarce, even in late Sept, and them St. Lewie'ans really love 'dem Cards.

Details of Random's cost estimates:
Thur - $20/person @ Pujols-5 (cash bar)
Fri   -  $10/person @ BBQ (assume incld's can beer + other drinks)
Sat  -  $30/person @ Hotel (cash bar)
       Total - $60 single / $120 w/spouse

Extra Costs:
Bartender (Sat) - $100 ($2.50/kuya, assumes 40 kuyas attend)
DJ (Sat nite)     - $250 ($6.25/kuya)
Ice ($40/day)    - $120 ($3.00/kuya)
       Total - $11.75 per kuya

Estimated Costs (mostly hospitality) - Assuming 40 kuyas (est):
San Miguel (Magoo) - 25 cases @ $30/case - $750.00
Other Beer (canned) -  5 cases  @ $18/case - $ 90.00
Soft drinks/Water/etc. -                                - $110.00
       Total - $950.00 / $23.75 per kuya

Total Estimated:  $95.50 single / $155.50 w/spouse
I'm assuming 40 kuyas will register (that would be about 20 spice). I'm totally guessing the costs of Magoo, other beer, and the softies+other supplies.
