Kuya Reunion 2004 San Antonio de Pampanga
BBQ at Stillman Park, Lackland AFB, Texas
Thanks to Woody Wood we were able to hold the BBQ on Lackland AFB. This was an opportunity for us to see how much the base had changed since we went through basic training more than 35 years ago. To tell the truth, I much more enjoyed the BBQ to basic training. There were lots of war stories and Tony Leffin and Randy Roberts were the featured cooks, helped by others to ensure food quality. The grub was excellent from the burgers to the chicken and all the fixins. After the "Q", some of the Kuyas stopped off at a famous night spot, fondly called "The Pit" that was just off of Kelly and an oasis of smut for many a fine USAFSS gentleman, like Rock, Bozo, Tony, Norm, Si Bob. Rock assures me that PJ spent his time at the library or base bowling alley. The rest of us, on the chartered bus, decided to remain in the bus' safe confines. Luckily, the intrepid group was led by two former flight commanders who made sure the Town Patrol would not interfere.
Tony Leffin wields a mean spatula while Randy "Random" Roberts keeps a close eye. Notice both have that international cooking juice, San Miguel, ever at their side.
Where's the Ajinomoto?
Kuyas and Kuyettes gather around while waiting for the chow hall to open. From right: Miki Collins, Mary Barry-Cybulski, Mary Helen Kelly, Vic "Chilibean" Kelly, Ken "Kram" Kramarsic, Joe "Cy" Cybulski, Al "Pogi" Shirley (standing), Mike "Lulu" Gilson (partially obscured...Hey, that's sounds like one of Hippo's coments about Lulu), Ron "Sam" Samson, and Kathy Kramarsic. That's Pappy Jewens shuffling over with his head down to the left. Pappy may have been looking for loose change?
Here's to Kuya Reunions. From left: Marv "Marvelous Marv" Campbell, Randy "Random" Roberts, Artie "Arturo" Sharon, Mike "Lulu" Gilson and Ralph Rotunno. I think Lulu likes Ralph. Hell, we all like each other!
More Kuyas. From left: Norm Collins, Don Orbin, Tony Leffin, and John "Rock" Blanton. Notice Rock is the only one of the four with a nickname. Not that we don't have some names to call them, just not for printing.
Don Orbin is after Ronald "Rap" Perry's neck for some reason and it's cracking Rap up. Nonplussed by this are the LTs, from left, Skip Coburn and Glenn "Saint" Gillette. Mouse is looking over Rap's shoulder to see if Don gives Rap a hickey or not. Jim Grusecki (this side of the picnic table) looks like he gonna say "I had nothing to do with the X1 attack on my former Daddy. He might make me do rip table and WX."
Vic "Chilibean" Kelly and Joe "Mouse" Fraundorfer cheese for the cameras. Chili is thinking "get those 202 paws off me and let me catch my dits" and Mouse is thinking "I can sell this pic to the Manila Times saying I found Ferdinand Marcos' illegitimate son, "Chilibean Marcos" hiding out on an unnamed USAF base wearing some of Imelda's pumps. Is there a reward?"
Don and Connie Orbin with Mouse and Sharon get together to pose at the BBQ. What are the hammers doing behind us?
Mike "Lulu" Gilson is giving the opening speech and is thanking Darrell "Woody" Wood for his assistance in setting up the BBQ at Stillman Park on Lackland AFB. There was a lot of work with all of the security, etc. Woody did a great job! Looks like Mary Rotunno is turning around to ask Ralph what a malaking susu is and what does that have to do with a BBQ.
Miki Wise looks like she's telling secrets to Kathy Kramarsic. It's delayed Kathy from crunching on those chips. Artie Sharon seems to be questioning Ralph Rotunno about something...maybe the fine art of dit chasing.
Kevin "Pooh Bear" Brown looks at Norm with a strange look from behind that bottle of Magoo. What has Norm said? Could it have been about a hammer in the PI? Backdooring? Hmmm, Pooh is thinking long and hard.
Norm is only trying to get a closer look at Miki's painted on flower he did on the patio of the hotel. Miki seems to be enjoying the obscene sound Norm is making on her chest. It tickles!
The crowning glory of the night was a vist to this hole-in-the -wall bar called "The Pit". A few intrepid souls hopped off the bus to investigate but nearly half came running back after they discovered there was a cover charge and Rock Blanton knew most of the strippers. I head the strippers had been at this joint since Rock, Norm, Bozo, PJ, Tony, and Si Bob were here in the 60's.
